I just learned that October was Domestic Violence Awareness month (Yes, shame on me for not having realized sooner). The vehicle that made me aware: an initiative termed The Purple Purse that was started by The Allstate Foundation to promote greater financial empowerment in abused women, to help them get back on their feet and build better, freer and more independent lives after abuse.

Given the challenges for women and investing we see and have discussed in this blog before, I am always on the lookout for interesting and innovative twists and solutions that look to right the balance or infuse a fresh twist to the process.

Of late, I have been noticing a puzzling trend as I did some research on the offerings of financial products to women. This was partly driven by personal curiosity.  I saw a lot on saving, budgeting, paying down debt, and cutting down debt.

But I have always wondered and never quite understood why nobody has ever given me advice, personally, that an important aspect of my future financial security is increasing my earnings.
